TOUMODI towards an improvement in drinking water supply from April 2020

On Wednesday March 19, 2020, the Minister of Hydraulics Laurent TCHAGBA paid a field visit to the Kimoukro pumping station to ensure the smooth running of the works to improve the drinking water supply to the city of Toumodi. .

Mrs. Raymonde Goudou Coffie, Minister for the modernization of the administration of innovation of the Public Service and Mr. BERTE Ibrahiman Director General of ONEP also took part in this visit.

It should be recalled that in February 2020, Toumodi and its surroundings faced a severe shortage of drinking water.

To therefore find a quick and lasting solution to this situation, the following actions are underway:

  • Emergency works, amounting to 250 million FCFA will upgrade the existing station to reach a maximum additional production capacity of 2000m3/jr, by the end of April 2020;
  • The installation of two (2) UCDs, amounting to 1.123 billion FCFA which will have a daily contribution of 4,000m3 by the end of July 2020, which will bring daily production to 1100m3/jr. The drinking water needs of the 18,000 subscribers estimated at 8000m3/jr will be filled.
  • From 2021 to 2022, the implementation of the CMI project, amounting to 42 billion FCFA, will allow a contribution of 30,000m3/jr, for the connection of new subscribers in the project impact area.

It should be noted that UCDs are drinking water production units already manufactured by SUEZ, very practical, easy to install, ready to use and which treat raw water so as to each produce 100m3 of drinking water in one hour.

 In total, 40 UCDs will be installed on the national territory by the government and for which ONEP will provide delegated project management to guarantee access to drinking water for the Ivorian populations.
