The Director General of ONEP, Mr. Berte IBRAHIMAN held a consultation meeting with mayors of the District of Abidjan (Port-Bouët, Marcory, Koumassi, Treichville and Abobo-Gare), on Friday January 16, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the ONEP conference room located at II Plateaux 7èTranche.
This meeting is part of the continuity of exchanges with the Minister of Economic Infrastructure, Mr. ACHI Patrick. Its objective was to keep them informed about the nature of the drinking water supply works currently being carried out in their municipalities. The Director General welcomed at first glance, the effective presence of the mayors who made the trip.
Then, he informed the mayors that, faced with the lack of drinking water on the distribution network in the District of Abidjan, a vast reinforcement program had been initiated by the Ivorian Government with the support of partners in development. The objective is to increase the drinking water capacity in the South Zone and especially in the new urban areas crossed by the water pipes from the Comoé South Station.
He quantified the additional contribution estimated at 664,000 m3/day, thus filling the drinking water production deficit which was 150,000 m3/d. According to the Director General of ONEP, this vast program will revolve around twelve major projects, which will have the effect of improving the quality of drinking water supply to the populations of Abidjan. The mayors present or their representatives took turns to take the floor to immerse themselves in the reality of the work carried out, not without formulating requests concerning the supply of drinking water to areas outside the housing estate in Marcory, Port-Bouët and Koumassi. The Director General responded to all the concerns, in particular the extension of the linear in the municipalities in need and above all the establishment of a toll-free number; The exchange meeting was for the first officials of the town halls of the South Zone of Abidjan, the opportunity to realize the extent and effectiveness of the work in progress in their municipalities.
